I am often asked for my opinion or advice when it comes to buying timepieces and so this is the first in a series of posts that can hopefully give customers some insight into the wide range of options they have when it comes to choosing their next watch.

DIVE INTO SUMMER - 5 WATCHES TO WEAR UNDERWATER
by AHMED SEDDIQI & SONS
As many people will be visiting water side destinations over the summer months, I’ve made a selection of diver’s watches that will make the perfect companion on the beach or in the ocean – completely waterproof, robust in design and stylish on the wrist – they can be worn all summer long.
p.s. don’t forget to make sure the crown of your watch is firmly closed when wearing your watch underwater – any manipulation of the crown or pusher buttons while submersed could allow water to enter the movement causing eventual damage or erosion through rust.
Panerai Luminor submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio
With a uniquely distinctive appearance and rugged exterior, the 2017 collection of submersibles by Panerai draws inspiration from the brand’s roots in the ocean’s depths as well as its strengths in innovation, presented in the form of a variety of materials and a new calibre with a three day power reserve. Customers can choose between red gold, stainless steel, bronze or this model in titanium – giving significant lightness to a timepiece presented in a 47mm case.
Rolex Sea-Dweller 2017
The 2017 version of the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller pays tribute to the original 1967 model – the ultra-resistant professional divers’ watch designed by Rolex 50 years ago. Originally designed for pioneers of professional diving, it was fitted with an innovative helium escape valve that was set into the case, allowing the watch to safely decompress, just as divers wearing it must, following any deep sea dive. Today’s version features a larger, 43mm case, a new 3235 calibre, a Cyclops lens over the date and the model name boldly marked in red.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
The Royal Oak Offshore Diver gets an update with a host of new colours that will look perfect on the beach. The basic functions of the watch remain the same – 42mm steel case, double crown, mega tapisserie dial and rotating inner bezel. The refresh comes in the form of a ‘funky’ colour palette that ranges from lime green to bright orange and easy to switch out rubber straps. The timepiece is self-winding and is waterproof to a depth of 300m.
Tag Heuer Aquaracer 300 Camouflage
For a more rugged look, this year’s Aquaracer by Tag Heuer is presented in an arctic or jungle option and is everything you’d expect from an all-terrain watch. Water-resistant to 300 metres, the robust lightweight case is machined from Grade 2 titanium with a matt black PVD treatment. The bezel has a minute track (graduated every minute for the first 15 minutes) and is made from matt black ceramic, which is also particularly scratch-resistant.
Ressence 5
Turning the very concept of a diver’s watch on its head, the Type 5 is the first mechanical watch to be completely legible underwater, regardless of viewing angle. This is mainly due to its composition – all 142 components of the timepiece are immersed in 37.5ml of oil – cancelling out what is known as Total Internal Reflection. The Type 5 has a seamlessly integrated unidirectional bezel and instead of a crown, the case back is used for both winding and setting. The watch takes inspiration from nature, adopting a distinct aqua-dynamic shape that mirrors those of sea turtles.
