‘POWER OF PINK’ ART & AWARENESS PROJECT LAUNCHES IN ABU DHABI AT A FUNDRAISING DINNER HOSTED BY AL MANARA INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY
by AHMED SEDDIQI & SONS
Created by local artist Leila Al Marashi, the “Power of Pink” is an innovative art installation born out of the artist’s personal experience and a tribute to her mother, who recently lost her five-year battle with breast cancer.
In addition to building awareness, ‘Power of Pink’ unveils the artist’s very personal experience with the color pink and creates a space to express the different facets of feminine consciousness, the experiences of women, and why pink is often used as a ‘feel good’ color. Through the different design walls, the artist explores the history, associations, and personal relationship with the color pink and humbly attempts to create an experience that engages audiences and enables them to recognize the effects of the color pink on the female psyche.
Commenting on the event, the artist Leila Al Marashi said: “I am honored and humbled to be in the presence of outstanding female role models who have graciously supported not just my art project, but my message and entire journey. This year carries a deep meaning of giving and service and it was my intention through this project to give back and share through art the story of pink in my life and that of many women and a message of positivity, courage and love.”
“Launching this art installation during Breast Cancer month carries a lot of meaning and I aspire through it to share a personal experience of hope to all women and families who are affected by breast cancer, in the same way a pink cancer ribbon is meant to give hope. Building awareness and sharing this message of positivity and hope is a huge responsibility and cannot be done in isolation. It is through meaningful partnership and support such as the one offered by Al Manara International Jewellery that we can truly make an impact,” Al Marashi concluded.
The fundraising launch event featured a silent auction of fine jewellery, presented by Al Manara International Jewellery, one of Abu Dhabi’s premier retailers of luxury watches and jewellery, with a legacy spanning over 40 years, which was fully acquired this year by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the region’s largest retailer of luxury timepieces and jewellery.
Commenting on the event and auction, Hind Abdul Hamied Seddiqi, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer for Seddiqi Holding said: “We are honored to have had the opportunity to participate in this fundraising event that has charity at its heart. Thanks to the vision of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility has been highlighted throughout 2017 thanks to the Year of Giving initiatives and we are glad to be able to align ourselves with his strategy.”
The proceeds of the silent auction will go in part to fund the Power of Pink installation, which recreates the different phases of a woman’s life from birth, captured in a four-walled pink room, with each wall telling the story of that stage of her life. The installation will be unveiled at Art Abu Dhabi in November 2017 with other locations to be announced shortly.
Proceeds from the fundraising dinner will also go to Cancer Patient Care Society (Rahma) which supports cancer patients, their families and caregivers to overcome the physical, emotional and eventually financial burdens of their diagnosis.
