We’re in full summer swing here at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons and there’s no two ways about it… it’s hot! In a bit to cool off, we’ve enjoyed catching up with summer sports season, from the thrills of Tour de France to the nail-biting Wimbledon finish and the welcome allure of cooler climates. With major sporting events winding down, and many of us decamped on adventures in far-flung destinations, it seems our friends in the watch world are also immersing themselves in the worlds of fast cars, yachts and the big blue ocean. While autumn is still a few months away, we’re also excited about the upcoming Only Watch, which auctions one-of-a-kind masterpieces in aid of medical research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and of course there’s our very own Dubai Watch Week to look forward to. However, before metaphorical autumn leaves fall, a few summer sizzlers to get excited about…

The New MB&F HM8 Mark 2

In 2012, MB&F delved into the realm of automotive-inspired timepieces with the HM5, followed by the HMX in 2015 and the HM8 in 2016. Each iteration featured a distinctive speedometer-style display on the case's side, reminiscent of the bold and futuristic designs from the 1970s.

Now, from Max Büsser, a lifelong fan of all things car-related, MB&F introduces another captivating Horological Machine influenced by the automotive industry, a redesign of the previous automotive-inspired HM8, now known as the HM8 Mark 2.

The HM8 Mark 2 boasts a remarkable fusion of mechanical and optical engineering. The automatic movement's hour and minute discs, positioned horizontally, are optically magnified and projected 90 degrees to the vertical display using high-precision prisms made of sapphire crystal. Sleek supercar styling, visible mechanics and a kinetic dial-side winding rotor are all fused together within an aerodynamic sandwich of composite material CarbonMacrolon, grade 5 titanium, and hyper-complex sapphire crystal. The result is a wristwatch that exudes the essence of a true supercar.

Tag Heuer Carrera Skipper 2023: A Nod to Nautical Heritage

Tag Heuer has once again captured the hearts of watch enthusiasts and sailing aficionados with the release of the highly anticipated Carrera Skipper 2023. This timepiece is a stunning tribute to Tag Heuer's iconic Skipper from the 1960s, a watch that has long been celebrated for its connection to the world of sailing. The Carrera Skipper 2023 beautifully blends vintage charm with modern innovation, making it a must-have for those seeking a timepiece that embodies both history and cutting-edge craftsmanship, whether you're a seasoned sailor or simply appreciate the allure of maritime history

The ocean-blue dial's layout, with its dual sub-dials and date window, is a nod to the original Skipper's design language, staying true to the watch's heritage while still meeting the demands of contemporary watch enthusiasts. The stainless steel case, meanwhile, measuring 39mm, exudes a sporty and sophisticated vibe. The polished and brushed surfaces give the timepiece a dynamic appearance that easily transitions from casual to formal settings. Furthermore, the watch's 100-metre water resistance ensures its durability, making it the ideal companion for water-based activities.

Under the hood (or should that be mounted on the hull) the Carrera Skipper 2023 is powered by Tag Heuer's Caliber 18 automatic movement. The movement boasts a power reserve of approximately 40 hours and is equipped with a chronograph function. The case-back features a unique engraving of a vintage yacht, further celebrating the watch's maritime heritage.

Tag Heuer's attention to detail is evident in the strap options for the Carrera Skipper 2023. The watch comes with two different straps – a sporty blue fabric strap with white stitching, reminiscent of sailboat sails, and a sophisticated stainless steel bracelet for a more versatile look. The quick-change system allows for easy swapping between straps, giving wearers the freedom to adapt the watch to their style and occasion.

For Only Watch 2023, a biennial charity auction dedicated to raising funds for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Biver has contributed an exceptional timepiece that embodies his remarkable journey and personal catharsis.

The timepiece, appropriately named "Catharsis," is a reflection of Biver's life experiences and triumphs.
